In the EU or UK? Opt out of Meta using data to train AI

Facebook form for opting out of data being used to train Meta AI

I heard Meta were planning to change their EULA/Terms of use and planned to opt out in anyway possible. But I was nicely surprised to see not only the EU but UK can opt out using the short form above. Although I think it is cheeky to require a reason…

I assumed the EU would be covered but the UK would be left out. Thank goodness for GDPR

  1. @cubicgarden The reply I got: “We are unable to identify any examples of your personal information in a response from one of Meta’s generative AI models. As a result, we cannot take further action.”

Which is not a response to “do not use my information to train your models”.

  2. @cubicgarden @tdp_org so they want people to give them data, so you get to “opt-out”, while retaining the data you just gave them?

At which point another Corporation, where you did not opt-out, can just go around and do whatever you want as you did not opt-out.

That model does not scale. It they want to process your data they need to ask for permission, not for forgiveness….
