“relatively few people put their beliefs into practice” – this (and the rest of the paragraph) is the crux of it for most of us ‘techies’ I think. People will happily use Google Docs and organise meetings with friends over (public and perpetual) Twitter, but will object to data ownership and campaign for the ‘right to be forgotten’. It’s partially because all of this stuff is normalised I guess – taking a step back seems very drastic…
